What is "wireless Internet"?
Just what it sounds like - a high speed, full access connection, linking your laptop or handheld device to the Internet without the need for network or telephone cables. Much like the technology in the everyday cordless phones used at home, this technology transfers data across the airwaves instead of voice conversations.
How does it work?
It’s simple! To connect to the internet wirelessly, you need to take your portable computer or wireless-enabled PDA to our hotspot. Hotspots are areas that are “enabled” with live wireless signals that are available for public use.
Once you’re in a hotspot location, there’s two simple steps to getting online. First, your computer needs to make a connection to the wireless radio in the hotspot. This is usually done automatically when you turn on your computer or PDA. Once you’ve made this radio connection, just open up your regular web browser, such as Internet Explorer. Instead of opening your usual home page, such as msn.com or yahoo.ca, you’ll be redirected to the BOLDstreet or FatPort login page. It’s here you’ll be prompted to enter your username and password, create a new account, etc.
Once you log on to the network, you’re cruising! You can surf the web, receive e-mail, chat with friends – everything you normally do from your home or office connection. |
